As noted in my blog title, I have a savings goal - hopefully this will help me track it in a more comprehensive way.

First and foremost, I've decided to create get rid of our cable and phone service. We use the cell phones regularly anyway, so having a land-line isn't necessary; not to mention that I can get online at work.

Exactly what DH and I have done. We are down from $50 a month "basic" cable to $10 a month "limited basic," and got Netflix. We aren't missing anything. It's such a pleasure to have something on hand we WANT to watch, instead of flipping through 100 channels of nothing we're interested in. Good luck in your quest.

I have been very happy with Netflix. I love getting TV series. We are in the middle of SciFi Channel's Battlestar Galactica and HBO's Six Feet Under. I also enjoy getting Monk. One think I like about series is that I can get up to 4 hours of things to watch per DVD and have shorter items. Sitcoms are delightfully commercial free, and only take 22 minutes, nice for a mini-unwind. I'm not always into committing to a 2 hour movie, but a 30 or 50 minute pice is do-able. I'm hoping you get good value out of Netflix too.
